When I was a young boy, I was in a very serious accident. It happened fast, the way most of the hard things in life do. One moment everything was ordinary, and the next, after an emergency helicopter ride, my family was standing in the middle of something that should have taken everything—my life, my grandfather and dad’s business, the little my parents had managed to save, and their sense that the world was still a place where you could keep going.

Insurance is what held us. Not in some abstract way. It actually worked. It paid for what needed to be paid for. It gave my parents and grandparents room to breathe while they figured out how to put one foot in front of the other. It gave me a second chance I still carry.

I’ve never forgotten what it feels like to be protected when it matters most.

That memory has shaped nearly everything I’ve done since.

I grew up in Minnesota. I’ve lived here my whole life, and I’ve spent most of it close to the things people work hardest for. I started in the trades, so I know how a house is actually built and what it really costs to rebuild one after something goes wrong. I spent years as a pastor, sitting with people in the middle of the biggest changes of their lives—weddings, funerals, diagnoses, moves, the quiet moments when someone realizes the life they planned has just shifted. For two decades since, I’ve worked as a real estate broker and a home builder. I’ve walked through kitchens while families imagined raising their kids there. I’ve stood in half-finished rooms and listened to people talk about the life they were trying to create inside those walls.

All of that has taught me the same thing: most of us are not just protecting a house or a car or a boat. We’re protecting the story we’re trying to live. The ordinary days. The people we love. The chance to keep going when life gets really hard.

I know a lot of people think of insurance as a necessary burden—confusing, expensive, and something you only think about when something goes wrong. I understand why. Too often it feels that way.

But it doesn’t have to. When it’s done well, insurance is simply confidence. It’s knowing that what you’ve built, and the people you’ve built it for, are looked after. It’s having someone who will sit with you, explain things in plain English, and stay with you long after the paperwork is signed—especially when you need to file a claim.

That’s what I try to be. Not a call center. Not a salesperson who disappears. An advocate. An expert in multiple industries. Someone who has lived enough of life to understand what’s at stake, and who will walk alongside you while we sort through your options from top-rated carriers and find the ones that actually fit.
